Who We Are

Emergent Research Staff

Carolyn Ockels:  Carolyn is the Managing Partner at Emergent Research.  Carolyn's current research and consulting is focused on economic decentralization, the growth of small business and Gen Y. 

Carolyn has extensive consulting experience.  Prior to Emergent Research she managed Cambridge Energy Research's (CERA) Asian energy consulting business, led market research in Japan for RCM Capital Managment, and held a variety of domestic and international consulting positions with the economic forecasting and planning consulting firm Data Resources, Inc. 

Carolyn did her graduate work at the University of Chicago in International Political Economy and has a B.A. from the University of California at Berkeley in the same field.  Her email address is cbockels@emergentresearch.com

Steve King:  Steve is a Partner at Emergent Research.  Steve's current research and consulting is focused on economic decentralization, the growth of small business and the future of work and workplaces. 

Steve has extensive consulting, marketing and general management experience with both large and small companies.  Steve has served as vice president of Corporate Marketing for Macromedia, vice president and general manager of Asia Pacific for Lotus Development Corporation and vice president of marketing for Isys Corporation.  He has also been the interim CEO, CMO or head of business development for 6 start-up technology companies and has served on the fiduciary or advisory boards of over a dozen companies. 

Steve is a senior fellow and board member at the Society For New Communications Research, a research affiliate at the Future of Work and an advisory board member at Pond Ventures.   Steve has a B.S. from the University of Richmond and an MBA from Northwestern's Kellogg School of Business.  His email address is sking@emergentresearch.com

Carl King:  Carl is a research analyst at Emergent Research.  Carl's research and consulting is focused on coworking, social media and statistical analysis.

Emergent Research Partners

Emergent Research partners with a mix of third parties depending on the research requirement and the needs of our clients.  Partners includes Intuit Corporation on small business research; the Society for New Communications Research on social media and marketing research; and the Institute for the Future on a range of research. 

Emergent Research also maintains a network of research affiliates and we partner with them on a as needed basis.  Most of these affiliates are experts in their fields and work for small or personal businesses.
